The Portland Pickles today announced their schedule for the 2018 season; the team's first campaign as a member of the West Coast League.
Portland opens the season at Walker Stadium with an exhibition game on May 31 versus the Northwest Stars. The Pickles will then continue at home for their Opening Series against the Port Angeles Lefties (June 1-3) followed by three games on the road in Cowlitz (June 4-6).
Important In-State League games include the Pickles hosting one series against the Bend Elks (June 30, and July 1- 2) and one series against the reigning West Coast League Champion Corvallis Knights (July 31, August 1-2).
The Pickles will host six teams from Washington state. These teams include the Bellingham Bells, Cowlitz Black Bears, Port Angeles Lefties, Walla Walla Sweets, Wenatchee Applesox, and the Yakima Valley Pippins. The only Canadian team to play in Walker Stadium will be the Kelowna Falcons (July 12-14), as the Pickles’ sole series against the Victoria HarbourCats will be in British Columbia.
The Pickles will play 35 games at Walker Stadium, 27 of which will be West Coast League matchups. The remaining home games have been scheduled against the Gresham GreyWolves, the other wood-bat team owned by Rose City Baseball.
The first game between the two Portland Area teams is slated for June 19. In turn, the Pickles will travel to Oslund Field at Mt. Hood Community College to play a series against the GreyWolves between July 31 and August 2.
The Pickles will play 30 games on the road. Portland’s final regular-season series will be in Victoria (August 6-8).
Immediately following, the Pickles may host West Coast League Divisional and Championship Playoff games (August 10-16) should the team qualify.
