PORTLAND - The Portland Pickles announced today the return of Coach Mark Magdaleno for the 2018 West Coast League Season.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Mags back on the diamond with the Pickles next summer,” said Director of Baseball Operations Gregg Swenson. He brings a great deal of experience to our staff and has a tremendous rapport with the players. We are putting the pieces together for a great 2018 season, and adding Coach Magdaleno to our staff increases the excitement surrounding this team.”
Magdaleno was in charge of the offense and defense for the Pickles in 2017; Portland scored 6.76 runs per game and the team ended the regular season 31-29 while gaining a first-round playoff berth.
Coach Magdaleno has 34 years of baseball experience at the highschool or college level compiling an overall record of 290-165.
Magdaleno is currently headed into his third season as Head Coach at Clark College (Vancouver, WA). Last season, the Penguins finished 21-20 despite losing four starters to injury. The Penguins had nine players sign to play at the next level. Under Magdaleno the Penguins not only had a winning season but they had 71 players on the honor roll. Mags is also the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Advisor at Clark.
Magdaleno is a graduate of Buena High School in California where he was a standout baseball player and football player as a catcher and quarterback respectively. He attended Westmont College (CA) where he played collegiately.
Mark and his wife Jodi live in Washougal, Washington. They have five children, two of whom are married; their son Mark to his wife Jessica and also Shaye to wife Lauren. The remaining family consists of son Ryan, and daughters Jessica Leigh and Jessica Pauline
