Pickles Announce the Signing of a Pair of Portland Pilots for 2018

PORTLAND - Brad McVay is currently competing as a true freshman at the University of Portland and is set to join the Pickles in 2018.

McVay comes from nearby Milwaukie, OR, where he is was a four-year letterwinner for the Milwaukie High School Mustangs. In 2016, McVay landed on the All-Northwest Oregon Conference first team, and he helped lead the Mustangs to their first appearance in the Oregon State Playoffs in several years.

“Brad has the single most important quality I look for in a pitching prospect, which is the ability to control the strike zone.” said Pilots Coach Geoff Loomis. “He has a fast arm, which will translate into velocity as he matures.”

McVay tied the Oregon 5A High School record by fanning 17 in a seven-inning game.

“We are excited to continue our relationship with Coach Loomis and his Portland Pilots,” said Rose City Baseball’s Director of Baseball Operations, Gregg Swenson. “I have watched both Brad & Gabe play quite a bit, and they are excellent ball players who come from great families. Their local ties and athletic talents will bring a great deal to the Pickles this summer.”

Outfielder Gabe Skoro is from Portland’s Lincoln High School and is also a freshman at UP.

He’s a four-year letterwinner, who earned All-PIL accolades three times while in high school. Skoro helped lead Lincoln to the PIL title in all three of these years.

“Gabe has gap-to-gap power and can run,” Geoff Loomis said. “He has the tools to be an everyday player as he progresses through our program and I know he’s looking forward to the challenge.”

His club finished as the runner-up in the Babe Ruth World Series, where he was named as a Gold Glove Outfielder.
