3-Run Home Run Ends Up Being Deciding Factor for Portland

Portland hit the road to take on Walla Walla last night in the first game of a three game series and battled the first place Sweets down to the wire.  After an excellent start from Michael Newstrom, it was a three run home run by Sweets center fielder that was the downfall in the series opener. Portland pitchers put up nothing but zeroes on the scoreboard outside of that one swing of the bat that led to an eventual 3-2 loss.  Newstrom threw 4 scoreless innings with two walks, one hit, and three strikeouts in his start for Portland.  Pickles were paced on offense by a 2-4 day from John Jensen, and RBI’s from Darius Perry and Gabe Skoro.  The Pickles will be back in action in Walla Walla tonight with a 6:35 PT first pitch.
