Pickles Announce Coaching Moves
Stepping in as Head Coach is Jim Hoppel, a seasoned baseball coach with nearly four decades of coaching experience and a deep history with the Pickles. Hoppel has been a cornerstone of the organization since joining the staff 10 years ago and he’s ready to lead the team into a new era of excellence.
When asked about the new position Hoppel said “I would like to thank the Portland Pickles front office and staff to have the confidence in me for being named the new Manager of the Pickles. I have been with the organization for 10 years now and it has been one of the best decisions I have made in my baseball career. I have worked with some great coaches and Managers in the past and will do everything I can to keep the Portland Pickles as one of the most competitive summer programs in the country. I would like to thank Mark Magdaleno, (Mags) for the opportunity he has given me to be a part of his staff the past 5 years. I would also like to say that I value his hard work and dedication to making this a top program in summer baseball. I am looking to have another great year and making a run at another championship.”
After a decade of coaching from the third base dugout, Mark “Mags” Magdaleno is taking on a brand-new challenge as our Director of Player Recruitment. Mags will be continuing his legacy by bringing future big-leaguers and the next generation of Pickles to Portland.
When asked about the new role Mags said '“I was fortunate to have recruited some very successful players who represented the Pickles Organization proudly on and off the field. We've been successful at a very high rate, and brought Divisional Championships and the WCL Championship to Portland. The Pickles have given me the opportunity to put together another competitive roster. And this time I get to do it for my friend, Jim Hoppel. Nothing would make me happier than to bring another championship home to Portland, Hopp, and the staff. I will work just as hard out of the front office as I did on the field to put together another roster that wins another WCL Title.”
